Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington’s track record unambiguously demonstrates that it is little more than an attack dog for liberal special interests. Despite this, CREW is routinely cited as a non-partisan ethics watchdog.
CREW Exposed seeks to set the record straight about the left’s deceptive “watchdog.” Our in-depth investigation of CREW’s funding, staff, and programs clearly demonstrates that, despite CREW whining about front group organizations, CREW itself fills that space for liberal special interests.
CREW Exposed is a project of the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), a non-profit organization devoted to promoting personal responsibility and protecting consumer choices. The Center operates ActivistFacts.com, which is committed to providing detailed and up-to-date information about activists, whether respectable or radical.
We want our motivations to be transparent and up front.
In 2004, CREW filed a baseless complaint with the Internal Revenue Service alleging that the Center for Consumer Freedom had violated the terms of its status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity (the same status CREW enjoys as a supposedly “non-partisan” organization).
Despite their failure to successfully attack our nonprofit status, CREW has doggedly pursued CCF, CCF’s affiliated organizations, and many other right-of-center groups, by, among other things, providing reporters with deceptive or patently false misinformation.
We’ve become increasingly aware of some media organization’s apparent denial or lack of knowledge of CREW’s unethical and partisan agenda.
We are proud to report that 100 percent of the funding for CREW Exposed was provided by foundations.
The Center for Consumer Freedom is supported by foundations, food companies, and thousands of individuals. Like CREW and the vast majority of other non-profit organizations in Washington, D.C., as a general rule CCF does not disclose individual donors. To quote CREW’s former Executive Director Melanie Sloan, “I wouldn’t have any donors if I revealed all my donors.”
